Rightmove is facing a £1.5bn collective legal claim led by Jeremy Newman, alleging the company abused its dominant market position by charging estate agents and developers excessive fees. The Competition Appeal Tribunal has scheduled a hearing for 2–3 November 2026 to decide whether to grant a Collective Proceedings Order, which would allow the case to proceed to full trial. Rightmove must submit its defence by 29 July 2026, with Newman replying by 25 September 2026. The claim covers agents and developers who paid subscription fees between 1 April 2020 and 1 April 2026, during which Rightmove reported profit margins of around 70%, making it one of the FTSE 100’s most profitable companies.
